Your ship ties up at Prince George Wharf, in the middle of downtown Nassau. From that gangway to a table at Twin Brothers is about 25 minutes on foot. It is roughly a mile and a half, and most of it runs along the water.
Here is how the walk goes.
Point yourself west
Leave the wharf and head west along the harbourfront. The route follows the waterfront promenade for nearly the whole way, so you are walking beside the harbour instead of through traffic. The water keeps you pointed in the right direction, and downtown thins out behind you as you go.
Twenty-five minutes is a real walk. Give yourself the time, and take water and shade if the sun is high.
A cay built from the harbour
Arawak Cay is younger than most people assume. The ground itself was built. When Nassau Harbour was dredged in 1969, the sand that came up was used to make the cay you are walking onto.
Locals call it the Fish Fry. It is a row of painted wooden buildings on the water where Bahamians and visitors come to eat the same Bahamian food at the same tables.
You will smell the fryers before you see the water
That is the honest landmark. When the smell of conch fritters reaches you, you have arrived.
Twin Brothers sits right on the water at the Fish Fry. We are open every day, 11am to 10pm, so a morning or afternoon port stop both work. Come up the porch steps and you have a choice to make. Inside there is a bright, air-conditioned dining room and the bar. Outside there are porch tables where the water is a few steps away and you can watch the Cay go by.
Either way, you are sitting down about 25 minutes after you left your ship.

What to order after a walk like that
Start with conch, always. Conch salad is fresh raw conch cured in citrus, a Bahamian cousin of ceviche. Cracked conch is tenderized, battered, and fried to a golden crunch. Conch fritters come golden-fried with our own fritter sauce.
Then there is the daiquiri machine, swirling fresh all day at the Cay. Miami Vice, sour sop, mango, and the Bahama Mama are all waiting for you.
If you would rather sit down to a full plate, the fire-grill turns out fresh Bahamian seafood, snapper to cracked conch. There are steaks too, which is the other half of our name.
